Multi Cup GP in Nynäshamn

Tight high speed racing on the 1912 Olympic Sailing Arena in Nynäshamn bacame a hit for sailors, spectators and media. Saturday proved to be testing for sailors and organizors when big light wind shifts hit the track. The first windward to leeward race was cancelled. The afternoon become more promising and race two and three was possible to accomplish leaving Samsung Challenge and Team All Stars on tie points having All Stars as leaders due to first place in race three. The newly converted to multihulls, Team Strömberg, got the feel for the heat having two more boats out there posessing years of multihull experience onboard.

The two navigational races on Sunday gave the sailors more action having wind gusting to 16 knots from south to south west. The first 15NM race in the Nynäshamn archipelago the Juniors onboard Samsung Challenge showed they are fighting hard to be the top team. Now it was up to the old boys on Team All Stars and Team Strömberg to prove themself in the last 30NM race to Saltsjöbaden.

Sailing north having plenty of wind wearing to the west over the course and 30,000 islands to navigate was fun and exhausting. More than 26 high speed jybes, never ending tactical decisions to place the boat right according to fellow combatants, island and shallow areas. Sail changes from Gennaker to Code 0 to jib and back again and so on all the way to the finish line was a perfect training session except it was a race where the search for perfection in all maneuvers was the name of the game.

When entering the finish line after a few hours of racing through one of the most beautiful archipelagos on the planet left Team All Stars and Team Strömberg first and second. Team All Stars came out on top this weekend, Samsung Challenge second and Team Strömberg third. Now we look forward to the Multi Cup GP races in the Stockholm City next weekend. See you there!
